FHM Philippines...Phoebe Walker - April 2017

The odds of Phoebe Walker winning the Best Supporting Actress award at the Metro Manila Film Festival 2016 as the tempting Sister Cecilia in Seklusyon didn't look too good. The newcomer was up against silver screen stalwarts from both mainstream and arthouse cinema—Mercedes Cabral (Oro), Cai Cortez (Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank 2: #ForeverIsNotEnough), and Gladys Reyes (Die Beautiful).

At the time, she thought that she had only one thing going for her, and that was the strength of her sixth sense. Phoebe recalls it like it was yesterday: “In the morning of the awards night, I was taking a shower and then my iPod was playing. Eh wala naman akong soundtrack ng Moana, yung ‘How Far I’ll Go,’ (biglang tumugtog). Super dinibdib ko yun, sabi ko, ‘Aba, parang may chance ah...’” Well, we all know how that turned out.

But with the cheers and accolades come the critics and haters, and Phoebe learned this the hard way. It was the first day of the year and when she checked her Twitter account, a screenshot of her from the movie, topless, bearing the caption, “This is your best actress?” was the first thing that flashed before her eyes. She broke down after reading those words.

She explains, “So far, bashing is what I cannot stand, because it really gets on my nerves when people think they can say something about you, but then it’s part of the job because you’re a public icon, right?” Still bothered by the online negativity directed towards her, Phoebe is slowly getting used to the trappings of being a celebrity.

After all, she has a trophy to show for it in case another basher comes her way. Aside from getting to know the true thespian that is Phoebe Walker, this month's issue delves into the art of fake news, exposes your most hidden fetishes, and explores the gastronomic trend of food parks. Meanwhile, let Sister Cecilia silently persuade you to get a copy of FHM April 2017, through a quick preview of things to come.
