The 27-year-old actress Kris Bernal is known for her triumphant finish on reality talent search StarStruck back in 2006, where she was named Ultimate Love Team together with actor Mart Escudero. Ironically, Kris found greater success alongside a different leading man, batchmate and Ultimate Survivor Aljur Abrenica.
She admits, "Medyo nahirapan ako nung naghiwalay na kami ng career paths ni Aljur. I honestly thought that he had the upper hand and was the stronger personality in our tandem. Aljur was already the network hunk then. But that challenged me also to work on myself. I wanted badly to improve my skills and better my brand as an actress."
And hone her craft she did, giving justice to every role that her maiden network trusted her to execute. From a confused spouse on Hiram na Alaala, to a mentally impaired mother on Little Nanay, she rendered honest performances to establish herself as a thespian. The only problem, according to her, was being "limited" by these wholesome roles, her petite frame not helping her cause.
Lo and behold, she finally decided to say yes to FHM for that very reason—to show the public that she has what it takes to make it as a mature actress. Even if it meant ruffling a few more feathers, which she initially felt when she started posting about her newfound liberation on social media earlier this year.
"Handa na ako sa pagbuhos ng negative comments. Pero tinanggap ko rin ang imbitasyon niyo to do this kasi curious din ako sa kung ano ang sasabihin [ng mga tao]. I really want to break the box people put me in," Kris explains. "Gusto ko rin malaman nila na, 'Hey, Kris can do meatier roles...she can be edgier and more daring!"
Well, we couldn't be more eager to help her out in shedding her squeaky clean image and letting go of her inhibitions.
